Asha Kilgallen McGee, Class of 2019, is a co-curator of Opening the Mountain, which opened on October 5 at Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in Novato. The show took as its point of inspiration a 15-mile hike around Mt. Tam taken in 1965 by the Beat poets Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, and Philip Whalen; they walked the mountain in the spirit of the Buddhist practice of circling a sacred object clockwise, known as pradakshina.
Featuring works by Bay Area artists past and present, Opening the Mountain is MarinMOCA'S inaugural show. It will be on view until December 21, 2024. Learn more.
