We are emerging from the pandemic year with many important lessons for how The Bay School can continue to improve in fulfilling our commitment to equity and a student-centered approach.

It is a pleasure to announce that The Bay School of San Francisco will be “test free” in our application process going forward. As a test-free school, Bay will not use testing as a part of the admissions assessment even if scores are submitted.

After much discussion and feedback from counselors, we learned that “test optional” seemed to create more anxiety for families, who still felt it was advantageous to submit testing (even though optional truly meant optional). As a result, students and families spent unnecessary time and money on test prep. Test scores were never a large part of Bay’s assessment, and in the last admissions cycle, we were able to determine with certainty that we can fairly assess the academic background of each applicant without standardized test scores.

We hope Bay’s commitment to a test-free admissions process provides a welcome reprieve to students, who can focus that time and energy toward things they are passionate about.
