BA, Classical Studies, Loyola University New Orleans

A founding Bay staffulty member, Colin’s twin passions for music and the humanities can be seen in action every day at school. As a member of his high school jazz band, he loved listening to his band teacher's stories of life on the road, and he is always intent on getting music students to play and perform frequently. In college, he was a house band member of an established New Orleans jazz club and continues to maintain a career as a performing musician in the Bay Area and beyond. Colin’s thinking has also been shaped by wisdom from the classics, especially the Ramayana. “Rama is the perfect man, but he doesn't get on people's nerves. He thinks they probably know their own problems better than he does, so he keeps his mouth shut a lot of the time. I often ask myself what Rama would do.”

Precept affinity: We value kind speech; we don't slander or gossip. “We talk more than we do anything else, so it's important to monitor our speech.”

Favorite Acre lunch: “The best ratatouille I've ever had came from a faculty lunch back in 2009, but I will never forget it. I've also tried to make roast cauliflower and roast broccoli that is as good as Acre's; so far I have not succeeded.”

Currently teaching: Humanities 1, Jazz 1, 10th Grade Immersive, Shakespeare Unbound (Immersive), Mythology (Immersive)
