Melissa’s most impactful educational experience was her time studying abroad in The Netherlands. Getting to class in the winter meant riding her bike several miles in the snow, but between interesting classes and a crash course in self-care during the dark winter months, she emerged with an expanded view of both herself and the world, something she continues to cultivate. “From reading different genres of literature to swimming in the ocean, I want to expand my perspective and self-confidence by leaning into discomfort."
Precept affinity: We value the earth, our home. “To me, valuing the earth means respecting nature and appreciating the wild, and with that, allowing ourselves to feel grounded and more wholesome while living in tune with nature. If we can value the earth, we can value and respect ourselves and others and appreciate the diversity of our communities. We have so much to learn and gain when we explore and lean into our relationship with nature.”
Favorite things: Vegan caesar salad, being barefoot, and soaking up the sun as much as possible.
