If Rusty was to write an autobiography, its title would be "Curiosity: The Journey of a Lifelong Learner." This passion for learning landed him at Bay, teaching design and engineering classes in the Project Center. With a deep academic background in the sciences, his first welding class in Oakland ignited a love of working with his hands in a creative pursuits. He finds design and engineering to be at the intersection of art and science, which excite both halves of his brain, and believes in the importance of teaching young minds skills in this field. When not working, Rusty enjoys mountain biking, time with family and his kids, being outdoors, hiking, cooking and working in his own shop.
Precept affinity: We value patience with ourselves and others; we don’t rush to judgment. “The more patience we have, the more space we have for reflection, contemplation, and input from others. I often struggle the most to be patient with myself and to fend off self criticism, but the times I am able to do that are the times I grow the most."
