Julie believes science and mathematics are bridges to the profound, and she was smitten with both from the first, starting back when she took honors physics in 9th grade. And, as a dedicated home chef, Julie was the perfect person to co-design our Chemistry of the Kitchen Immersive. She empowers students to grapple with scientific concepts, and her enthusiasm for discussing all things physics and chemistry is infectious—stop her in the hall with a question, and you’ll come away with an entree-sized answer and a side order of joy. Julie loves teaching at Bay because she is supported in getting weird and playful with how classes engage ideas. When she isn’t teaching, she is likely thinking about teaching, but doing so while cooking or walking with her dogs.
Precept affinity: We value patience with ourselves and others; we don’t rush to judgment. “It’s easy to rush to judgment. This precept is a good reminder that the easy way is rarely the best way.”
Favorite Acre lunch: Anything that involves their fresh salsas and the famous hot sauce
