I remember my AP Lit teacher in high school talking to us about how we needed to look out for each other as a community. She made sure we had snacks if we were hungry, and talked to us about things that mattered beyond the classroom. That really stuck with me because most of my teachers were so focused on only the content in class.

In terms of math, my Calculus class senior year was the first time I really felt connected with math and interested in all the things we could do with it. In college, I didn't expect to be a math major, but the department was so incredibly supportive that I continued taking math classes and ended up changing my major at the end of junior year. Earlier in college, I remember one of my professors insisting that I was a math major, even when I was barely considering math as a minor. My professors really believed in me, and they were incredibly patient in explaining concepts and offering encouragement outside of class.

I love facilitating opportunities for students to do math with each other. Doing math together is the highlight of teaching at Bay, especially in those moments where students are really hearing each other and figuring things out collaboratively. I love that Bay offers me so many opportunities to really enjoy that. Students really show up in collaboration, and they work to figure out some really confusing and challenging concepts. I love those light-bulb moments where things click and the group appreciations or high-fives when they figure things out.

Precept Affinity: "We value living with kindness and honesty; we are careful truth-tellers." I think how we communicate with each other (and ourselves) has a huge impact on our experience. Being honest with ourselves and others is crucial to our own integrity, and being kind in our communication and interactions is the impact we have on our community.

Favorite Acre Meal: The coconut curry! “Such a highlight.”
