BA, Spanish, Williams College
Joanna’s most impactful educational experience was being part of Prep for Prep, a New York City leadership development and gifted education program "that offers promising students of color access to a private school education." Graduating from PFP allowed Joanna to attend Spence, a girls’ independent school in New York, and from there she became the first in her family to graduate from college. Joanna joined Bay in 2021 as a Spanish teacher and loves teaching this rich language because “you can connect to people at a much deeper level when you speak their language. Learning Spanish will provide my students more opportunities for genuine connections and experiences. It is yet another way to combat prejudices, biases and xenophobia.”
Precept affinity: We value living with kindness and honesty; we are careful truth-tellers.
“I particularly like the word ‘careful’ in the sentence; it is a good reminder to consider the impact of my words, even if well-intended and honest.”
Favorite Acre lunch: I love all of their salads.
Currently teaching: Spanish 2, Spanish 3, 9th Grade Immersive
