Ernest Chow is principal of Viridian Works LLC, focused on private impact investing. He was previously founder and partner at Sensato Investors, an institutional investment firm that managed Asia Pacific quantitative equity strategies. Prior to that he was co-head of active equities at Barclays Global Investors, where he spent a decade in various roles leading research and portfolio management of scientific active strategies primarily for Asia and emerging markets. He started his career in finance in the Investment Technology Group at County Investment Management, a division of the National Australia Bank. Before that, Ernie worked at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, as a research assistant, lecturer, and tutor.
He was also a musician, performing and recording in various groups, as well as teaching. He serves on the North American Board for International Literacy and the girls’ education nonprofit Room to Read. He was previously board chair and trustee at the Chinese American International School and a trustee at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. He is a fellow of Monash University, from which he graduated with a PhD in applied mathematics, LL.B. (Hons) and B.Sc.(Hons).
Ernie’s daughter, Claire, is a member of Bay’s Class of 2023.
